Welcome back! 2007 is set to be one of the most important years for Camogie in Europe! Our mission: to field a full Camogie Team of fifteen players and to take part in as many games as we can fit in and of course, to have fun doing it!

In 2006, an historic event took place when a group of us (of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds) got together to create Continental Europe’s first ever Camogie team. This year will be monumental in building upon the foundations created in 2006. We welcome people of all levels from those of you who’ve difficulty reading the word ‘sliotar’ to those of you who could ‘pop one over’ blindfolded!

Here’s a taste of what we got up to in 2006

On 10 June 2006, we got our first outing in Brussels during a demonstration match at the Brussels leg of the European Hurling Tournament.

On 2 July 2006, we had our first ever Camogie match, against Whitehall GAA in Poppintree, Ballymun and were victorious. We fell to the more experienced Setanta side in their second match that day but came away with our heads held high and a great deal of optimism for the future.

On 21 October 2006, we had another chance to field a team against Dublin visitors Ballyboden St Endas Senior B Camogie team. A group of 24 girls along with their mentors and trainer travelled to Brussels for a challenge game against Brussels, which took place on 21 21 October, in the presence of Irish Ambassador to the EU, Brian Nason.

So if you’re looking for a way to get fit this year, meet lots of people or maybe you just fancy having a go – then you can contact us: brussels.hurling@gmail.com

Camogie is a version of Irish hurling played by girls and women. The rules are similar to those of hurling, with a few minor exceptions. Most notably, in camogie, a player may hand pass the sliotar into the goal to score.

Our Brussels Club offers Camogie to its female members in addition to hurling. To inquire about spectating, CHALLENGING US or joining the club, please contact

Still not convinced that Camogie is for you? There are many reasons why you should join our club. Some of the more important reasons are:

The Best - We're the best Camogie Club in Mainland Europe (Probably because we're the only club?)

Good Looking - enough said!

Friendly - Not only do we play hard on the field but we have fun off the field!

History of the Game - Stair an Cluiche

Camogie is the female version of the GAA Sport hurling. The game of hurling is unique to Ireland and is one of the fastest field games in the world. It has always been a huge part of our culture and heritage and is our national sport. Hurling and camogie are very skillful games.

"Stephen Byrne with the puck out for Offaly...
Stephen, one of twelve ... All but one are here to-day.
The one that's missing is Mary. She's at home minding the house… And the ball is dropping i lár na páirce...."

From the great Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh

Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael is the first organisation to have promoted a Gaelic game for females - Camogie, akin to hurling. Founded in 1904, today it has the largest number of females, in excess of 150,000, participating in Ireland in a field game. Its membership includes many male colleagues who participate in such areas as administration, coaching and refereeing.
